A must read for Inventors. This book is an excellent source book for inventors rather you plan to go through the process of patenting it yourself or hiring it done. It is an excellent step-by-step how-to-guide that gives you a tremendous understanding on what to do, what to look for and what to look out for.

I highly recommend it. I hold six patents but my newest patent is 18 years old so I needed guidance in drafting a new patent under current patent law. I found David Pressman's book to be very well written a thoroughly up-to-date.

Patent It Yourself is not quite enough to confidently proceed and do it all by yourself (no book is), but getting the book and reading it will save you lots of time & money when and if you to go a patent agent or patent attorney. However: if you are really serious about it, also get a current copy of the PTO's official Manual of Patent Examining Procedure which can be down-loaded for free as pdf files from the PTO website. THE place to start learning how to get a patent. I started out drafting my own applications using PIY under the guidance of a retired patent attorney, and soon enough learned to do it properly & confidently on my own, ultimately as a patent professional myself. For points of patent law important to your case, it is good to go back to the source for the full story in addition to the brief, practical exposition in PIY. I bought this book many editions back when I started patenting stuff for myself. I am now a registered Patent Agent, but still refer to the current edition of Patent it Yourself, and recommend it to clients.
